Job Description and Duties

This role supports the California Department of Public Health's mission and strategic plan by contributing to the surveillance, reporting, and investigation of birth defects in California, aiming to reduce the impact of genetic and congenital disorders.

The Health Program Specialist II (HPSII) will manage various evaluation projects related to structural birth defects and surveillance processes. Responsibilities include identifying program requirements, evaluating existing processes, and suggesting enhancements to medical data collection for surveillance purposes.

The incumbent will work closely with the Research Scientist Supervisor I and the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program Section Chief, demonstrating proficiency in project management, assessment, and problem-solving skills.

Prior to assuming this position, candidates must pass the Health Program Specialist II exam to obtain list eligibility. Presence of telework eligibility is outlined in the duty statement.
