Job Summary:

The Assistant Director oversees the Player & Youth Development Program (PYD) development, operations, and expansion in the Southwest LA (SWLA) community. Leading a team dedicated to positive youth development, golf, and athlete development, they ensure the effective implementation of programs for junior players. Responsibilities include supervising the SWLA and OC teams, fostering staff growth, and cultivating partnerships. Serving as a representative of the SCGA and SCGA Junior Golf Foundation, they engage with members, constituents, and the public to promote the program's mission and impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Management
  • Organizes and schedules programming and activities aligned with SCGA Junior Golf Foundation's mission and PYD program objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and trains diverse full- and part-time staff, fostering their professional development.
  • Develops and executes strategic growth and expansion initiatives.
  • Ensures achievement of goals in customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and team member performance.
  • Implements and oversees program modifications to meet objectives effectively.
  • Assists in planning short and long-term strategies and objectives.
  • Cultivates and manages community relationships and partnerships, including parent and community committees.
  • Oversees PYD Leagues, one-on-one lessons, and assessments, developing new strategies and managing team implementation.
  • Establishes and manages a formal coach onboarding and training program, emphasizing positive youth development.
  • Collects, records, and generates accurate and timely program reports.
  • Contributes as a member of the Foundation's Management team.
  • Participates in professional development, including management training, positive youth development training, and Titleist Performance Institute.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the management team.
Golf Instruction
  • Oversees and implements all program and safety policies at SWLA and OC facilities, including in the field management and coaching 2-3 days per week.
  • Provide supervision and feedback regularly to staff.
  • Develops relationships with golf facilities, parents, and juniors to develop the program further.
  • Serves as a lead golf instructor at beginner, intermediate, and advanced level practices and other events as necessary while promoting best practices regarding safety and SCGA Junior Golf Foundation policies.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of two years of golf instruction experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience required.
  • Three to five years of youth development experience preferred.
  • Build and supervise a diverse team, providing regular feedback and support.
  • Adhere to strict time deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Analyze and process various types of information efficiently.
  • Identify and resolve problems.
  • Listen to others and effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Integrate diverse viewpoints and opinions while collaborating with staff, volunteers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and persuasively, with strong group presentation skills.
  • Maintain a professional yet approachable demeanor.
  • Foster teamwork and provide support to team members.
  • Adapt well to changes in the work environment and implement effective strategies for improvement.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance and promote quality.
  • Manage work activities within approved budgetary constraints.
  • Prioritize and plan work activities to ensure successful execution of multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
  • Take initiative and work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exhibit a demonstrated passion for junior golf and youth development.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable about the game of golf and capable of instructing others.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards set by the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation.
This role requires access to reliable transportation with adequate space to transport supplies and equipment. If the employee utilizes their vehicle, must have a valid California driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance.
The job requires some travel as necessary and work on weekends and evenings. This position will generally work Saturday through Wednesday. This will include working from multiple locations, including, but not limited to, SWLA facilities, the SCGA office in Studio City, and other PYD programming sites.

Must be able to utilize a golf club and demonstrate golf skills while teaching lessons. The employee must move to multiple locations on a golf course while providing instruction to students. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee frequently interacts with golf facility partners and supervises staff and youth.

The starting salary for this role is $70,000 and is eligible for benefits.
