The Position

The Human Resources Generalist plays a crucial role in managing HR functions at a professional level, collaborating closely with leadership to support the business unit. This role, based in Baytown, TX, encompasses various responsibilities across full-cycle recruitment, benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, labor relations, and compliance.

Job Description

Talent Management

  • Collaborate with the HR Manager and Corporate Talent team to oversee full-cycle recruitment, maintain job descriptions and FLSA classifications, conduct pre-hire skills testing, track key talent acquisition metrics, and conduct exit interviews.
  • Manage new employee onboarding and integration processes.
  • Create an inclusive candidate experience with a focus on diverse recruitment and hiring practices.
  • Develop and implement recruiting strategies to attract employees from varied backgrounds.
  • Administer a comprehensive performance management program using company-provided tools.
  • Work with supervisors and managers on corrective actions, performance improvement plans (PIPs), individual development plans (IDPs), and goal setting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of all personnel transactions into the UltiPro system.

Employee Relations

  • Offer HR guidance to line management as needed.
  • Provide support and counseling to employees for job-related conflicts, problem-solving, and dispute resolution.
  • Handle complex employee relations issues through efficient, timely, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Analyze trends and metrics in collaboration with the HR team to enhance employee engagement through tailored solutions and programs.
  • Coordinate employee recognition and service award programs.
  • Contribute to HR-related communications such as benefits information, policy updates, employee newsletters, and announcements.

Total Rewards

  • Lead annual benefits open enrollment and other related programs.
  • Manage all Leave of Absence programs and processes in coordination with a third-party administrator.
  • Handle various leave requests, including ADA accommodation requests.
  • Maintain communication with employees on leave to ensure smooth return-to-work transitions.
  • Advise managers and employees on leave laws' interaction with paid time off, workers' compensation, and disability benefits.
  • Monitor wage and hour regulations in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Provide system support and troubleshoot issues in collaboration with Corporate HRIS and Benefits teams.

Compliance

  • Work closely with management and employees to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain updated, confidential employee files in compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Communicate and implement necessary policy and procedure changes.
  • Conduct audits as necessary, including audit report verification, commission reports, and payroll data.
  • Oversee the annual AAP data collection and reporting process.

Other

  • Participate in the HR Council and Safety Council.
  • Manage AmEx and Concur programs.
  • Review payroll adjustments with the payroll administrator.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in human resources, business administration, or related field; HR certification is a plus
  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in manufacturing or a similar industry
  • Proficiency in employment law, regulations, safety, and training
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with HRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Preference for experience with unionized workforces
  • Ability to analyze data and create executive-level reports
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Exemplary professionalism, confidentiality, and judgment
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time

Work Environment - The role is based in a professional office setting utilizing standard equipment such as computers, phones, and filing systems. Occasional exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and airborne particles may occur.

Physical Requirements - The position requires sitting and talking/hearing regularly, with occasional standing, walking, and use of hands. Occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds, balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing/pulling, and squatting may be necessary.
