At Breaking Ground, we go beyond providing just housing. Our programs are dedicated to assisting individuals experiencing street homelessness, particularly those who have been homeless for extended periods, in transitioning to indoor living. Through initiatives like our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we guide individuals towards a permanent place to live.

The Prince George:

  • Situated in Manhattan, The Prince George offers 416 units of permanent supportive housing to low-income residents of New York, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and long-term homeless individuals, some of whom may have mental health challenges
  • The Center for Urban Community Services delivers comprehensive social services on-site, while Breaking Ground oversees property management operations
  • Originally built in 1904, The Prince George, once a leading hotel in New York City, is now a recognized historic landmark

Role Overview:

The Engineer in Property Management, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, plays a pivotal role in maintaining the common areas and residential units within our buildings. Common areas include offices, multi-purpose spaces, roof deck, garden areas, lobby, fitness center, and sidewalks. This position entails performing basic plumbing, woodworking, and electrical tasks to ensure the upkeep of these spaces.

  • This is a full-time position with a 35-hour work week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Handle regular and emergency electrical and plumbing repairs
  • Keep a detailed log of work orders completed during shifts
  • Collaborate with painters and housekeepers as needed

Minimum Requirements:

  • Three years of relevant work experience
  • High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Proficient in using power tools
  • Basic understanding of electrical and plumbing systems
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items, stand for extended periods, and climb stairs if necessary
  • Knowledge of computers is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Experience working with elderly, disabled, or previously homeless individuals is a bonus
