The ideal candidate will demonstrate a robust technical foundation in both ML/MLOps and software development, coupled with the strategic insight necessary to integrate these fields effectively.
Key Responsibilities:- Strategic Direction: Formulate and implement a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes advancements in both ML/MLOps and core software engineering, ensuring alignment with our product's vision and objectives.
- Engineering Leadership: Supervise the development, scaling, and optimization of our ML platform while maintaining solid, scalable, and maintainable software engineering foundations. This includes leading initiatives in system architecture, API design, data processing, and infrastructure that supports both machine learning and application development.
- Innovation in ML/MLOps: Direct the team in the adoption and innovation of machine learning model development, deployment, monitoring, and management. Ensure that the ML lifecycle is seamlessly integrated with our CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes, focusing on automation, reproducibility, and scalability.
- Software Development Guidance: Advocate for best practices in software development, including design patterns, code quality, security, and performance. Ensure that our core software engineering practices enhance our ML capabilities, fostering a culture of excellence.
- Team Development and Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and nurture a diverse distributed engineering team comprising software developers, ML engineers, and data engineers. Cultivate an environment that promotes innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning across both software engineering and ML/MLOps domains.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Act as a liaison between the ML/MLOps and software engineering teams, ensuring effective integration and collaboration. Work closely with product management, UX/UI designers, and other stakeholders to deliver a high-quality product.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years in technology roles, with leadership experience managing teams specializing in both ML/MLOps and core software engineering. Familiarity with ML metrics observability, workflow orchestration, service release automation, notebook development, and LLM deployment is advantageous.
- Technical Proficiency: A comprehensive understanding of enterprise software architecture, design patterns, and modern programming languages, along with a solid foundation in machine learning algorithms, data modeling, and MLOps practices across major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams. A strategic thinker capable of balancing immediate objectives with long-term vision.
- Collaborative Abilities: Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, capable of fostering positive relationships across engineering teams and with other business units.
- Educational Background: An advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a strong foundation in both AI/machine learning and software engineering.
