Associate Director, Academic Innovation at BU Virtual Learning & Innovation

Boston University Virtual (BUV) is dedicated to creating top-notch online degree and certificate programs. We are in search of an accomplished Associate Director for Academic Innovation to be a key player in enhancing the online learning experiences and programs at BUV.

As the Associate Director, you will have a crucial role in providing training and instructional design support to ensure the highest quality of online courses. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to offer exceptional professional development, coordinating services, and producing standard materials and tools for instructional design.

The ideal candidate should be well-versed in online program and course design, a collaborative leader with a track record in creating resources that support online learning and ease of adoption. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Learning Strategy and Innovation, you will be part of a team of instructional and learning designers working closely with faculty across BU's schools and colleges.

  • Professional Development Support and Training (50%)
    • Build a thriving teaching and learning community through collaboration with faculty and staff
    • Create training resources that promote innovative design of online programs
    • Support faculty and staff in creating materials for online programs
    • Develop video tutorials, workshops, and other assets for utilizing online teaching tools
    • Engage with faculty on promoting academic innovation
    • Update training modules and resources for effective online course delivery
  • Academic Innovation and Research (20%)
    • Provide expertise in instructional design practices
    • Stay updated on educational technology trends
    • Facilitate collaborations for digital teaching and learning resources
  • Learning Design and New Program Development (20%)
    • Support learning design and new program development projects
    • Aid in developing content for online programs
  • Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement: (10%)
    • Collaborate on effective instructional design strategies
    • Provide support to learning designers and BUV team
    • Build partnerships to advance digital teaching and learning at BU

Required Skills

  • Master's degree or certificate in instructional design or related field
  • 8-10 years of experience in instructional design for online learning
  • Hands-on experience in developing professional development materials
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Highly approachable and passionate about teamwork
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on results
  • Desire to experiment with new technologies
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in instructional design and educational technology
  • Experience in creating training materials using graphic and visual design
  • Strategic mindset with analytical capabilities
