WAGE : 21.63 per hour

STATUS: Hourly/ On-Call without Benefits

SCHEDULE: Afterschool hours 2:30pm - 5:30pm, Monday-Thursday. Occasional Evenings/Weekends.

PROGRAM(S) : RESJ Family and Community Engagement Services (FACES) and RESJ Clark.

REPORTS TO : RESJ FACES AND RESJ CLARK Program Coordinator

REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE: English Required; Spoken Mandarin, Somalia or Maay Maay a plus.

DRIVING: Required

OTHER: Works with Youth under age 18

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The After School Assistant will work with IRCO RESJ teams at elementary schools in Portland Public Schools to support afterschool academic and enrichment activities like book clubs, math and reading, sports and field trips. A college student or community member with a flexible schedule is an ideal candidate. Those interested in working with IRCO youth are encouraged to apply.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist IRCO staff with afterschool groups in PPS elementary schools.
  • Help with classroom management and group facilitation.
  • Work with students one-on-one and in small groups.
  • Help plan afterschool activities.
  • Chaperone occasional field trips.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, committees, and volunteer activities to support IRCO's goals.

Requirements

JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position would qualify. This would typically include:
  • 3-6 months' previous experience working with youth in a classroom or summer camp setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of immigrant and refugee cultures and local populations.
  • Knowledge of emergency, social, and human services, as well as the information and referral system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
  • Experience and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
KNOWLEDGE:

Education: High School or GED (1)

Experience: Less than one year of experience is required (2)

Licensure, Certification: N/A

Additional Language Required: Yes

Computers: All positions at IRCO require use of a computer and experience working with Microsoft Products including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
