About the Position:

The Recovery Coach plays a vital role in supporting SHSU students on their academic journey. Working closely with the Assistant Director of Coaching, the Recovery Coach provides structured learning support to aid students in achieving Academic Recovery. This position focuses on promoting academic success, student engagement, personal development, and fostering connections within the university community.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide personalized coaching to undergraduate students aiming to boost their academic GPA.- Assess individual needs and offer actionable strategies for student improvement.- Generate summary reports and make relevant referrals for additional campus support.- Assist in organizing and facilitating events at the Academic Success Center, such as Student Learning Orientations and Welcome Week activities.
Non-essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Fulfill any other job-related tasks as assigned.
Work Hours and Environment:

- Location: Academic Success Center in the Newton Gresham Library- Maximum of 17 hours per week- Some weekend and evening shifts may be necessary.
Experiential Learning:

After initial training, the Recovery Coach will enhance their skills through experiential learning methods, including conducting one-on-one sessions with students.
Requirements for the Position:

- Start Date: Fall 2024- Currently enrolled at SHSU as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Masters, or Doctorate student- Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA- Demonstrate a growth mindset and willingness to address student academic needs- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills- Effective time management abilities- Proficiency in utilizing computer applications such as Office 365, Zoom, and Blackboard
Preferred Qualifications:

- Maintain a 3.0 GPA- Interest in pursuing a career in education- Experience with FAFSA application for the current academic term- Familiarity with various learning pedagogies- Bilingual abilities
