Job Description:

Position Overview

  • Performs a wide variety of planning, procurement, inventory, and quality control tasks supporting the manufacture of products.
  • cts as an individual contributor or member of a project team receiving direction from senior staff.
  • Works directly with engineering, machine shop, and welding shop to ensure timely procurement and availability of materials, including placement and tracking of purchase orders.
  • Reviews production drawings and determines required inspection procedures for purchased and manufactured items.
  • Performs receiving inspections of purchased items and interim inspections of work in process.
  • Performs general shipping and receiving tasks.
  • Performs scheduled stockroom inventories.
Responsibilities and Assigned Tasks

Planning
  • Maintain in-depth awareness of current orders and production backlog.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing plans for procurement of materials and services required to complete production orders.
  • Identify material requirements, issue purchase orders to qualified suppliers, and follow up to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Work with shop supervisors to schedule delivery of required materials to the shop floor as needed to maintain efficient production workflows.
Material Control
  • Maintain secure storage of company and customer-owned inventory items.
  • Issue materials and supplies from inventory to authorized jobs and work orders.
  • Perform accurate inventory counts and report findings to management.
  • Prepare material and equipment for shipment.
  • Perform final inspections and ensure proper packaging of all shippable items.
  • Verify the accuracy of packing lists, shipping labels, and commercial shipping documents.
  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments and deliveries.
  • Maintain receiving and inspection records.
Quality Control
  • Review production work orders and determine applicable inspection procedures.
  • Ensure inspections are carried out and that manufacturing operations result in conforming products.
  • Perform receiving inspections on purchased items.
  • Verify functionality and conformance to purchase order requirements and supplier-published specifications.
  • Search and review supplier datasheets and customer-furnished drawings as required.
  • Direct received items to the Test Department or Shop for additional inspections as specified in a company purchase order or applicable test procedures.
  • Maintain inspection records and prepare inspection reports documenting discrepancies.
  • Recommend preventive and corrective action.
  • Participate in MRB and quality audits.
  • Maintain calibration records for tools and test equipment used for verification of mechanical tolerances, electrical measurements, and other measurements required to certify compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain records of supplier performance and compliance with internal quality policy and objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Two years of formal training in electrical or mechanical engineering at an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Vocational training as a machinist, welder, or electromechanical assembler is desirable.
  • Equivalent qualifying experience, including military service, will be considered on an individual basis.
  • Five or more years of experience as an engineer or senior technician in an organization engaged in the manufacture of industrial products for commercial or government markets.
  • Two years of experience in purchasing and procurement with direct supplier contact or two years of experience in quality assurance roles with responsibility for inspection and conformity of purchased and manufactured items.
  • Must have working knowledge of industrial materials, components, methods, and processes as they are typically applied in the manufacture of modern electromechanical systems.
  • Experience in a marine industrial or operational environment is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing and contracting processes as implemented within an established MRP/ERP system.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive professional relationships with key suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of quality control processes and procedures applied within a certified ISO 9001 or AS 9100 quality management system.
  • Willingness and ability to perform receiving inspection of purchased items, including verification of purchase order and supplier-published specifications, verification of quantities received, and possible shipping damage.
  • Willingness and ability to use standard test and measurement tools as required to verify mechanical and electrical tolerances.
  • Must be ble to read and apply information contained in engineering specifications, engineering drawings, welding specifications, bills of material, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Must be able to download, install, and utilize new application software quickly as needed or assigned.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
