  • Typical Schedule: Mondays – Fridays, this position is salary/hours may vary

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of lab supervisory experience, or 5 years experience as a Histotechnician/Histology Technician; AND
  • Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science with 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing; OR
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or biological science and 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing; OR
  • Associate degree in medical laboratory technology (or pulmonary function) and 2 years laboratory (or blood gas analysis) training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing

Overview of Position Details:

This position is responsible for planning, directing, and managing a laboratory operation. Reports to the Lab Director and Regional Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, although other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for all elements of the clinical laboratory operations, process flow, specimen collection, specimen processing.
  • Ability to complete anatomic laboratory specimen processing functions (grossing, embedding and sectioning of tissue on slides).
  • Manages the daily operations of the laboratory and personnel to ensure adherence to quality standards and deadlines.
  • Monitor and approve staff and provider time off in ADP (payroll system).
  • Responsible to calculate and communicate provider commissions.
  • Develop and oversee procedures for dealing with troubleshooting and problem solving in all areas of laboratory operations.
  • Oversees or conducts training and new employee orientation.
  • Manages workload and scheduling.
  • Conducts purchasing and inventory management for the laboratory.
  • Ensures maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment. Manages quality assurance procedures.
  • Establishes and implements written operating procedures and protocols that are in compliance with OSHA standards for HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure.
  • Ensures adequate safety and compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Researches new tests, new procedures, and new technology in the Medical Technology field. Initiates discussion with Laboratory Director and Executive Director about new methodologies, tests, procedures, and equipment as appropriate.
  • Measures and monitors key performance areas of laboratory. Recommends ways to promote continuous quality improvement, customer service, and employee satisfaction.
  • Develops and directs the statistical and record keeping software functions of the laboratory.
  • Regular meetings with Executive Director to keep Upper Management informed of laboratory operations.
  • Coordinates communications and workflow between FDP laboratories.
  • Organizes monthly FDP laboratory meetings where areas of improvement, new policies, procedure alignments are discussed.
  • Ensures equal specimen distribution among dermatopathologists.
  • Onboards new FDP providers with laboratory procedures.
  • Assists with new residency lab training.
  • Oversees all aspects of the medical courier operations including the development and adjustments to specimen transport routes.
  • Communication with associated locations to facilitate specimen transport, tracking and adherence to specimen transport related guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
