The role of the confined space attendant is driven by their understanding of the specific hazards relevant to the space.

The qualification and general capabilities below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability desired by OSHA and our company.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
To perform no other duties that interfere with the attendant's primary duty to monitor and protect the Entrant.

Demands the full attention of the team member undertaking the responsibility at any time that a confined space entry process is underwayAbility to monitor two spaces that are accessible from the same platform between the two.

Perform the duties of the external fire watch for Hotwork being performed as part of the confined space entry.

Remain outside the permit space during entry operations unless relieved by another authorized AttendantKnow existing and potential hazards, including information on the mode of exposure, signs or symptoms, consequences, and physiological effects (review SDS or waste profile as applicable)Maintain communication with the Entrant (s) by verbal communication, clearly communicated signals or radioPost the permit at or near the point of entry and keep an accurate account of those workers entering or exiting the permit spaceEnsure ventilation is in use and remains functional throughout the entryVerify that the entrant has completed and documented pre-entry meter readingsVerify Entrant is wearing all required PPE identified on the permit, including a harness connected to a Rescue Self Retracting Lifeline (RSRL) or mechanical rescue devicePerform non-entry rescue using RSRL or mechanical rescue deviceSummon rescue and other services during an emergencyOrder evacuation of the permit space under certain circumstancesPrevent unauthorized people from entering permit spacesInform authorized entrants and the entry supervisor if any unauthorized person enters the permit space despite the attendants' efforts to prevent entry.

Shop helper and other safety duties as neededFoundational technician training as desiredSKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Attendant must be competent with operation of RSRL and mechanical rescue device.
Problem Solving - uses logic and methods to help solve problems.
Communication Skills - clear written and verbal instructions and notes are essential.
Working Knowledge - must understand safety procedures.

Must perform quality, accurate, complete, well-organized, concise, analytical and well-articulated workMust be able to complete multiple tasks with a strong sense of urgency to meet the customer needs.

Must be able to work well within a team environment and take instructions from management and co-workers.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Safety Oriented with the ability to identify and eliminate hazards and unsafe work practicesMust be capable of performing the essential functions of the jobQUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED requiredMust be at least 18 years of age.

Experience NOT required but Experience is a PLUS *~ Confined Space Attendant ~ Fire Watch ~ Bottle Watch ~ Rope Rescue TechnicianWORK ENVIRONMENT:

The performance of this position will require exposure to shop areas, which all require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.

Ambient temperatures, typical shop lighting, and mechanical equipment are generally present throughout the shop.
Will be working at times in a covered or outside environment.
