The Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use works to reduce the global demand for tobacco through a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that combines promoting policy change with increasing public awareness in low- and middle-income countries around the world. The Bloomberg Initiative prioritizes ten high-burden countries (Bangladesh, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Ukraine, and Vietnam) in collaboration with a global network of partners including the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the CDC Foundation, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, the World Health Organization, Vital Strategies, and the University of Illinois - Chicago.

The Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC) at JHSPH is a key partner of the Bloomberg Initiative, specifically by contributing to the generation of evidence and capacity building to support policy making and advocacy. We are seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator who will manage projects to generate evidence and will liaise with Bloomberg Initiative partners to obtain input on project ideas, project implementation, and dissemination of the findings.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty members and other staff members to design, launch, implement, and manage quantitative and qualitative studies to generate evidence that support policy and advocacy work.
  • Lead the development of protocols, manuals, standard operating procedures, questionnaires, focus group/interview guides and coding structures, for the efficient collection of high quality data.
  • Participate in developing budgets for projects.
  • Analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data; assess and ensure the quality of the data.
  • Participate in the dissemination of study findings, including writing manuscripts, abstracts, and fact sheets.
  • Conduct literature searches and synthesize the literature including identifying strengths and weaknesses, key take-home messages, and gaps in the literature.
  • Draft IRB protocols and associated materials, including COVID-19 safety plans.
  • Prepare training protocols and materials, conduct trainings, and ensure that protocols are being followed for in-country data collection.
  • Serve as the liaison for Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use partner organizations and grantees to identify strategic information needs for a particular country, countries or region.
  • Design and implement projects, and disseminate relevant information, to address those needs and provide technical assistance.
  • Identify and support capacity building efforts.
  • Plan trainings to build tobacco control policy capacity in the focal country(ies).
  • Represent JHSPH nationally and internationally, including actively participating in national and international meetings, panels, and other activities related to tobacco control policy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Political Science, or other closely related field.
  • Experience doing work in a low- or middle-income country.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
