The Junior Metallurgical Engineer role involves assisting in conducting laboratory experiments and tests to evaluate the efficiency of metallurgical processes such as flotation, leaching, solvent extraction, and electrowinning. Working closely with experienced metallurgical professionals and operations teams is paramount to support production and enhance process effectiveness.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Data Examination and Presentation: Evaluate test outcomes and data to pinpoint patterns, irregularities, and areas for process enhancement. Develop detailed reports outlining discoveries and suggestions.
  • Process Enhancement: Engage with senior metallurgical experts and operations teams to recognize and execute process refinement projects aimed at maximizing output, cutting expenses, and enhancing product quality.
  • Troubleshooting and Critical Thinking: Contribute to addressing process challenges, equipment breakdowns, and other issues that emerge during production.
  • Quality Assurance: Support in overseeing and upholding product quality standards across the production process. Implement necessary quality control procedures and frameworks.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Safety: Ensure metallurgical processes comply with industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety measures. Engage in safety activities and campaigns to foster a safety-focused culture.
  • Exploration and Progress: Remain updated on industry advancements, emerging technologies, and top practices in metallurgical engineering. Participate in research undertakings and inventive projects to advance metallurgical processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or Mineral Processing Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Knowledge of computer science, programming, and/or computer operations
  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems
  • Previous Project Experience or Project Training is advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of metallurgical principles and procedures, particularly in copper extraction and refining.
  • Proficiency in laboratory practices, data analysis, and experimental planning.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and aptitude for addressing technical challenges.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating efficiently with diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented and adept at working independently with minimal supervision.
  • MSHA training or certification is beneficial though not mandatory.
