Akagera Medicines is now gearing up for a Phase I trial of its lead tuberculosis treatment with plans set for Q3 of 2024. Simultaneously, the company is actively working on mRNA vaccines for a range of critical infectious diseases like TB, influenza, RSV, HIV, and Lassa fever.

The Role:

Are you a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate looking to make a meaningful impact in the field of immunology and vaccine development? Akagera Medicines is searching for a dedicated individual to join their team in Waltham, Massachusetts. Reporting to the VP of Immunology and Vaccine Development, the ideal candidate should possess hands-on experience with various immunological assays and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in developing and executing in vitro and ex vivo immunological assays to support the advancement of Akagera's mRNA vaccine technology platform. Responsibilities will involve investigating immune responses, aiding in the selection of lipid-based mRNA vaccines, and more.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to assess mRNA vaccine formulations in preclinical trials.
  • Quantify T and B cell responses in small animal models using ex vivo methods.
  • Conduct ELISAs and flow cytometry assays.
  • Perform peptide stimulation of splenocytes for cytokine-producing T cell detection.
  • Handle cell-based assays, including cell line maintenance and transfection experiments.
  • Isolate and purify primary immune cell subsets.
  • Manipulate primary human cells, including T cell expansion.
  • Analyze blood and tissue samples for various studies.
  • Assist in general lab duties such as equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, and organizing.
  • Maintain accurate records, organize data, and prepare presentations.
Education and Experience:
  • BS/BA degree (MS in biological or pharmaceutical sciences preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with in vitro and ex vivo immunology experiments.
  • Industry experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of immunological concepts is a bonus.
  • Strong integrity, interpersonal skills, and effective communication abilities.
