Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


The Assistant Vice President of Sponsored Programs Accounting and Compliance provides strategic and operational leadership for the post-award administration of awards received by the University, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and policies.

Core responsibilities include post-award accounting, billing, collections, financial reporting, recharge centers oversight, reconciliation and financial compliance activities.

Further, the Assistant Vice President has the leadership role for effort reporting, the indirect cost proposal submission to the Federal Government and related negotiations.

The Assistant Vice President is also expected to provide oversight for the annual audit in accordance with OMB Uniform Guidance, among other sponsor projects audits.

Finally, the Assistant Vice President will ensure at all times the operation is highly responsive to the needs of faculty, researchers, staff and other University stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:


Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, with a minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership in relevant functional areas in a complex organization.

Experience in a compliance-based regulated environment.
Experience interacting and negotiating with representatives from external examining agencies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Extensive understanding of regulations, policies and accounting principles related to contract and grant accounting, including concepts of cost allocation, allow-ability and reasonableness.

Ability to resolve complex issues and make decisions in a dynamic environment.

Ability to motivate and lead others in the accomplishment of tasks, objectives, and missions, and to take the initiative in influencing events and policy decisions.

Ability and demonstrated willingness to delegate assignments, authority and responsibility; to determine where/how a task can most appropriately be accomplished and to establish management controls for follow up.

Ability to interact with all levels of campus administrators and agency personnel.

Ability to prepare and present well-articulated analysis, reports and issues to direct management including operational, regulatory and compliance issues on behalf of the institution.

Ability to present ideas effectively orally and in writing with a level of style, grammar, organization, and technical construction expected at a senior management level in a major research university.

Ability to represent the university in research administration workgroups, trade associations and other forums.
