Job Summary

This position participates in the provision of lifeguarding services at the Borough aquatics facility.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

D1 - DOE
Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, and specialized training in the field of work including college courses, certificate program, apprenticeship, etc.

Less than one year of experience.

American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; and, American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer employment physical.

Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Enforces pool rules and regulations.
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and proper function of the facility.
  • Monitors and regulates pool and hot tub conditions; calibrates chemical readings and adjusts equipment accordingly.
  • Registers patrons for classes and programs.
  • Collects money, makes changes, and operates cash register.
  • Provides patrons with information and assistance.
  • Inspects facility and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Completes incident and accident reports.
  • Participates in Lifeguard training exercises.
  • Responds to water emergencies and performs water rescues.
  • Delivers CPR and first aid as needed.
  • Performs related duties.
Temporary and on-call employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.

Alaska Supplemental Benefits System:

The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $132,900.
