Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

As a member of the procurement team for an international ISO-registered company, the Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing equipment, goods and services and supporting vendor relationships for US41 THORNTON.

This position will manage supply chain activities to deliver the materials, equipment, supplies and services to the manufacturing and business operations of Mettler Toledo THORNTON in a safe, quality focused, timely, and cost effective manner.

This position works closely with Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, Engineering, R&D, Marketing, and Finance and reports to the Procurement Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to overall Procurement Execution and Strategy within Thornton Supply Chain and Operations
  • Manage supplier relationships to support high performance in regards of safety / quality / on time delivery / cost measures.
  • Assist in the process to Identify, evaluate, qualify and implement new sources of supply, technologies, and methodologies to support products and processes in alignment with required departments.
  • Negotiate prices and contracts for best total cost for assigned commodities pursuing cost reductions to support corporate targets.
  • Support tactical buyers in preventing and expediting critical shortages, investigating root cause[s] for supply chain failures and development of cohesive, permanent corrective actions.
  • Create and manage contracts and agreements that ensure material flow through Kanban releases & PO execution to support production.
  • Monitor and manage Kanban Procurement materials including but not limited to: Procurement Kanban set up and execution, addressing Kanban errors, identifying and resolving Kanban issue, and supporting optimal changes to overall program.
  • Contribute to Mettler-Toledo Thorntons new product development projects, strategies and initiatives. Define necessary actions and drive those as responsible person within material management and inter-departmental.
  • Support Make or Buy Decisions and New Product Introductions.
  • Analyze and validate material costs and identify saving potential as well as driving the implementation in alignment with required departments.
  • Support SAP Material Master Enrichment for Procurement
  • Other duties as required
What You Need to Succeed

  • Five to ten years of experience in purchasing/procurement small-to-mid volume electrical and or mechanical components commodity in a production environment.
  • Current SAP Procurement experience required: contracts, PIRs, Source Lists, purchasing master data, SAP/BI/HANA reporting
  • Procurement background and solid knowledge of MRP, Kanban programs and inventory management.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring Supplier Managed Inventory and replenishment programs and processes.
  • Lean Management(Manufacturing) experience and knowledge
  • Experience in various commodities relevant to MT Thornton's market: mechanical, electro-mechanical, PCBs, Optics
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, and persistent in accomplishing tasks in a timely manner.
  • Systematic approach to work, target- and result oriented
  • Professional attitude and best service practices at all times towards suppliers and internal/external customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven procurement negotiation skills
  • Able to work effectively as a team member and contributor in support of a manufacturing environment and R&D organization.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience. ISM and/or APICS certifications a plus.
  • Able to travel up to 20%, both domestically and internationally.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills, especially Excel
