JOB SUMMARY:
This Sr. Technical Advisor position is an expert within the mechanical engineering discipline, with specific focus on piping design.

This position will report to the Chief Engineer and supports managers, directors, and senior leadership, as needed, during the planning and execution of work objectives.

This position will also be responsible for troubleshooting problem areas and will frequently interface with other managers, subject matter experts, and program/project managers to develop and implement strategic initiatives.

The Sr Technical Advisor will also provide expert-level guidance, as required, to engineering managers and employees within the engineering organization while managing multiple projects.


Essential job duties of this position include:

  • Functioning as an engineering discipline lead for mechanical engineering.
  • Performing as a subject matter expert for assigned processes, procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Ensure that technical policies, guidance, and procedures are rigorous and comprehensive.
  • Provide code reviews and interpretations (ASME, NFPA, AWWA, etc.) for application to HMIS projects and maintenance organizations.
  • Developing action plans and forming and leading technical teams to drive durable solutions to emergent technical issues.
  • Providing technical support associated with in-service mechanical equipment and piping and new systems in the various phases of design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Leading innovations in procedures and processes that will contribute to engineering efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a member of the Design Review Committee for the Chief Engineer to provide detailed reviews of projects and facility modifications as needed.

Other job duties of this position include:

  • Provides detailed information, advice, and direction to engineering staff and technical teams.
  • Conducts research and provides recommendations that support strategic initiatives such as the development and enhancement of strategies, processes, and automation.
  • As required, research and lead the evaluation and implementation of new technologies.
  • Leads and coordinates change management processes for compliance.
  • Interfaces with groups (both internal and external of the organization; including senior management and the customer) and communicates (both written and verbal communication) project status and change management activities.
  • May be required to provide detailed and technical documentation for procurement actions, in support of one or more projects within the organization.
  • Utilizes expert-level knowledge and expertise while providing guidance to buyer technical reps (BTRs), procurement specialists, and other technical representatives in support of procurement requests. Basic Qualifications
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Active Washington State PE License in Mechanical Engineering.
  • In-depth understanding of project management from an engineering perspective.
  • Experienced with respect to engineering support needed during construction and commissioning phases of projects.
  • Proficiency in the conduct of engineering and configuration management principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to form and lead teams and drive initiatives to successful outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a variety of stakeholders. Desired Qualifications
  • 12+ years of engineering experience.
  • Mechanical/piping design and project experience in a nuclear environment; government or commercial.
  • Experience in multiple pump systems and control theory.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.
  • High degree of organization, planning and the proven ability to anticipate challenges.
