Location: Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield, ME

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct insurance verification processes to ensure patient financial clearance before services are rendered
  • Verify healthcare coverage and benefits, collaborating with patients, providers, and payers to meet service requirements
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, providers, and internal departments
  • Update patient demographic and insurance details accurately to ensure compliance with insurance benefits
  • Verify precertifications/authorizations for scheduled services using relevant platforms
  • Assess coverage and benefits to determine patient responsibility
  • Identify self-pay patients and provide necessary information for financial counseling
  • Collaborate with various teams to review authorizations promptly
  • Document all interactions related to authorizations or service payments
  • Address inquiries to leadership when necessary
  • Maintain updated knowledge of insurance plans and workflows within the revenue cycle
  • Adhere to departmental productivity standards and contribute to team performance
  • Focus on revenue maximization and minimizing bad debt
  • Ensure a safe environment in compliance with NLH policies and report any hazards
  • Participate in additional duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • At least 6 months of experience in an office or customer service setting (in person or over the phone)
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as needed
  • Mandatory flu vaccination as part of the role
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ year of experience in Patient Access within a medical environment
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and patient care settings
