Description:
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, accomplishes tasks which provide custodial services necessary to maintain all or part of a building on a varied schedule.
May take the place of any custodian or head custodian in their absence. Responsible in general for the operation, cleanliness, protection and preservation of each facility during an assignment to that facility.Other duties may include the following:
*Moving furniture, mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, moving inventory, making minor repairs to the building, its furniture, fixtures and equipment.
*Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and otherwise maintaining floors.
*Using power equipment and hand tools such as broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher and vacuum for the cleaning and maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
*Cleaning and servicing restrooms, shower room fixtures, windows and mirrors.
*Cleaning and dusting areas assigned; cleaning walkways and entrance areas; emptying wastebaskets, trash containers, pencil sharpeners; replacing lamps, fluorescent tubes and fuses.
*Performing minor repairs to the various mechanical and electrical systems in the building, andperforming various preventive maintenance tasks such as replacing fan belts, replacing air filters, lubricating motors, etc.
*Monitoring and protecting the facility, its contents and supplies as appropriate.
*Accommodating special events and needs as directed.
*Performing related duties as required.
*Locking and unlocking the building as required.
*Assists in performing seasonal grounds work (snow removal, lawn maintenance, etc.).
*Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
*Restocks disposable items and provides head custodian with inventory usage and data.
*Assists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
*Maintains building and grounds security in the building each school day.
*Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
*Performs duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Trustees policies.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of
- The principles of custodial work and care;
- Safety and accident prevention.
* follow written and verbal instructions and organize operations to make them efficient and effective;
* provide basic maintenance functions and minor repairs to the building, its furniture, fixtures and equipment;
- Proven or demonstrated ability to work effectively around children of K-12 age.
- Demonstrated abilities of mechanical aptitude and experience performing minor repairs.
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with other employees, students and the public.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear.
The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 lbs. such as cleaning supplies, pails and when unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move items up to 90 lbs. such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors at any time of the year.
The employee will work near or with moving and powered mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderateThis position requires the employee night shifts only, as needed, at any location in the district. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon the results of a pre-employment physical evaluation.
