We are looking for qualified candidates for multiple Pupil Services Specialist positions. This role will be part of the Juvenile Justice Educational Oversight Unit (JJEOU). The JJEOU ensures that youth in juvenile justice facilities receive educational services in line with Connecticut State Department of Education standards and meet performance expectations.
- Full-time position, 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, first shift
- Statewide travel required despite position being based in Hartford, CT
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing services in educational diagnosis, counseling, social work, specialized instruction, and psychological assessments
- Supporting educational staff and other relevant individuals
- Collaborating with parents, guardians, teachers, and assisting in educational program planning
- Maintaining records, preparing reports, and liaising with school systems and community services
- Working with facility clinicians on Care Plan and Discharge meetings
- Updating transcripts and ensuring course requirements for graduation are met

Purpose of Job
Within a state institution or unified school district, provides pupil personnel and special education services, offering consultation to teachers.

Examples of Duties
Provides specialized services like educational diagnosis, counseling, social work, and psychological services to students; supports educational staff as a resource; collaborates with parents and teachers on student planning; maintains records and reports; may liaise with schools and community services.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
Knowledge of service delivery methods, principles of education, and ability to motivate students and prepare reports.

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience
Requires a Master's degree with a focus on the field of special services.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience liaising between students, education programs, and agencies
- Counseling experience, including group counseling
- Participation in Student Study Teams and Planning and Placement Teams
- Monitoring Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Individual Transition Plan (ITP) objectives
- Certification in School Counselor, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, or Special Education in Connecticut

Special Requirements
- Must possess relevant certification from the Connecticut State Board of Education
- May be required to hold a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license
