JOB TITLE: Elementary and Int/Middle Media Assistant/Secretary
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, hourly employee.
WORK DAYS: 184 days (including paid holidays).
STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 8 hours per day (not including a 30-minute unpaid duty-free lunch break).
WORK YEAR: The work year for the Elementary and Int/Middle Media Assistant/Secretary includes all days when students are scheduled to attend school, plus 2 additional days.
SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS: The Elementary and Int/Middle Media Assistant/Secretary is paid on the "Secretary Salary Schedule," level 4, and is eligible for benefits on the "Support Staff" benefits schedule. Starting hourlly rate is $15.19 per hour.
REPORTS TO: The Elementary and Int/Middle Media Assistant/Secretary is supported by the District Media Specialist. Both the Media Specialist and the Media Assistant report to the building Principal.
SUPERVISES: The Elementary and Int/Middle Media Assistant/Secretary does not supervise any other employee(s).
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform school-based duties associated with the daily operation of the Media Center/Mediaplex, as well as providing staff support in the training and use of the Media Center/Mediaplex.
The Elementary Media Assistant/Secretary functions at an instructional assistant level capacity, performing a variety of functions in a school Media Center assisting the District Media Specialist in the operation of the Media Center in some cases providing instruction as a related arts class for K-6 students and assisting teachers and students in the full use of library services. Performs related work as directed.
The Int/Middle Media Assistant/Secretary functions at an assistant level capacity and performs moderately complex maintenance, inventory, and training on technology, as well as assisting students and staff with their Mediaplex service needs. Performs related work as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assists students at circulation desk with checking library materials in and out via a computer automated system; catalogs new books, and other library equipment; and maintains good condition of the books, etc.
  2. Offers related arts courses to support library experiences in the media center/ media plex.
  3. Inventories all Media Center/Mediaplex equipment; prepares inventory reports; catalog books and other library equipment ordered.
  4. Builds positive relationships with students by assisting students with navigating the Media Center/Mediaplex with school related projects.
  5. Performs customer service functions; provides assistance and information related to Media Center/Mediaplex policies and procedures; assists all students and teachers with their needs.
  6. Leads or assists with events such as Book Fairs, Author Visits, and Reading Incentives.
  7. Mediaplex Assistants support students and faculty in the use of technology.
  8. Shelves books and other materials; keeps collection in proper order; stocks and restocks bookshelves.
  9. Works diligently to ensure overdue books are returned by working with classroom teachers and when needed directly contacting parents/caregivers.
  10. Ensuring Media Center/Mediaplex has a welcoming and visually pleasing environment, by keeping displays and information for students and staff updated.
  11. Uses technology (Desktop/laptop/iPad) to email, enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes Google Suite and Microsoft.
  12. Provides services to support instruction as needed. ie. Lamination, copying, and other departmental/school equipment.
  13. Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Warren.
  14. With the support of the District, attends training when assigned to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  15. Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

ENTRY-LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma or GED is required.
EXPERIENCE: Willing to train a person who has a passion for supporting teachers and students in their learning experiences.
CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES: CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES: Able to meet the requirements of a paraprofessional as outlined in ESSA.
