Position Location: Washington, DC


Position Reports to: Policy Director


Position Travel Estimate: Up to 50%


Position Summary:


The State Policy Counsel/Analyst will play a key role in leading our state-level policy initiatives in collaboration with LGBTQ+ and other organizations. Responsibilities include advocating for non-discrimination, racial justice, voting rights, reproductive health, and more. This position involves working closely with state legislators, coalition building, and contributing to diverse policy areas across U.S. states and territories.


  • Develop and maintain relationships with statewide LGBTQ+ and progressive organizations.
  • Engage with state legislators and governor's offices to advance policy proposals.
  • Participate in state policy workshops and relevant conferences.
  • Provide expertise on legal briefs and support advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to achieve organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an Accredited Law School (Counsel position only).
  • Advanced/Graduate Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Government, etc. (Analyst position only).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community advocacy and strategizing for change.
  • Proficiency in C3/C4 Advocacy Tactics and state-specific legislation tracking software.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of LGBTQ issues and their intersectionality across various aspects of life.
  • Strong organization and collaboration abilities.
