lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer people, and their families. As a progressive racial, economic, and social justice

organization, the Task Force works toward a society that values and respects the diversity of human expression and

identity and achieves equity for all. The Task Force has offices in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Miami. More

Description:
The Federal Policy Counsel takes the lead for the National LGBTQ Task Force and its sibling organization the National

LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund to advocate for and secure federal policy advances for LGBTQ+ people in our three pillars:
Queering Democracy, Queering Equity, and Queering Faith.

Across issues of vital importance to queer people, the Federal Policy Counsel will press for racial, gender, economic and

disability justice at the federal level. Some key policy issues include non-discrimination, racial justice, immigrant rights,

voting rights, reproductive freedom and justice, queering the Census and other surveys, disability justice and access,

ending hate violence, economic issues, religious exemptions, health equity and more. We set annual goals tied to our

strategic plan, and this process drives clarity, alignment, accountability and impact.

**Responsibilities**:
This role will utilize key research, writing, leadership abilities, collaboration skills, public speaking, and community

engagement in working to:

- Under the direction of the Policy Director, co-Lead and continue to assist in the expansion of the FedWatch

Monthly Meeting, Listserv, and database in partnership with the steering committee and engaged organizations;
- Liaise with the White House, federal agencies/staff and legislative staff to develop strong, productive connections

that facilitate effective advocacy on substantive policy proposals;
- Conduct legal research and create briefs/recommendations for federal regulatory and legislative proposals and

policies to achieve progressive policy advances for LGBTQ+ people;
- Provide weekly updates regarding ongoing federal efforts with recommendations on ways to ensure a balanced

federal policy agenda and develop high-level written briefs for distribution in partnership channels with internal

and external stakeholders;
- Evaluate legal briefs, comments, and amicus briefs to identify and recommend potential collaborative efforts with

partners or uncharted routes of advocacy.
- Collaborate with State Policy Counsel on key issues impacting state legislatures to identify gaps, and routes to codify protections, and or protect them from occurring at the federal level.
- Lead and participate in a variety of intersecting policy coalitions, centering the voices and experiences of BIPOC, immigrants, people living with disabilities, and people living in poverty;
- Under the direction of the Policy Director, create relevant federal policy, judicial, legislative and regulatory recommendations on pressing policy agenda items such as Appropriations, Reconciliation. SCOTUS opinions, etc.
- Collaborate with entire Advocacy and Action department on federal policy workshops and other efforts at Creating Change (CC) and CC365, a year-round virtual event series;
- Assist law fellows supervising attorney train and supervise cohorts of law student and establish and maintain an engaged alumnus cohort;
- Collaborate with the full Advocacy and Action Department, the Communications, Marketing and Branding and Development Departments to ensure alignment, perform public speaking, research and writing, and otherwise serve as a strong organizational ambassador; and
- Adopt organizational community practices, integrate learnings from staff and other trainings, and perform other duties as assigned, including assignments related to the Action Fund.

**Requirements**:
Qualifications:
In this role, strategic thinking, strong research and writing skills, and organization are critical. A commitment to racial, economic, gender, and disability justice and a belief in our collective ability to create change in systems of power is mandatory.
- A law degree and a bar license preferably in DC.
- 5-7+ years of experience. Strategizing and advocating for change in your community.
- Strong research and writing skills. The ability to develop and communicate information clearly is fundamental to this role.
