CURRENT OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN OUR TEAM:
The Wood County HumanServices Department has a full-time (.97 FTE) openings for an EconomicSupport Specialist position in Marshfield, WI.
The Economic SupportSpecialist provides information about and determines eligibility forcategorical aids available through public assistance.Interpret andapply federal and state laws and regulations, policy and procedures toindividual case circumstances in order to meet the needs of low-incomefamilies.
Most interactions will occur primarily by phone. A. ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS- Interview and assess client's needs for public assistance,primarily by phone.
- Receive phone calls from the public regarding avariety of public assistance questions, assess client needs; and makeappropriate referrals to various community resources.
- Treat customersand co workers with respect and sensitivity.
- Listen effectively; assuremutual understanding of customer's intent and concerns by ongoingprocess of feedback and clarification.
- Write and speak clearly andconcisely to communicate program requirements.
- Participate in specialassignments, work group, and committees to improve quality and accuracyof service delivery.
- Process changes to determine eligibility forpublic assistance programs which includes strict enforcement of alleligibility requirements, investigative interviewing, budgetcomputation, case documentation, completion of a variety of forms, andcomputer usage.
- Communicate in a courteous and informative manner tomaintain good public relations.
- Responsible to know and practice thesafety policies of the county.
- Prepare and present informationregarding program services to clients, general public, community groups,County and municipal officials and other interested parties.
- Representthe department in legal proceedings and fair hearings and givesnecessary testimony.
- Identify any over issuance of benefits and referto investigation agency or process recovery as deemed appropriate.
- Anyother duties as may be assigned.
OTHER EXPERIENCE ANDQUALIFICATIONS:
*Word processing skills are essential. *Typing skillsof 35 wpm strongly preferred. *Knowledge of human behavior, motivation,crisis intervention, family and group dynamics, money management,interviewing and assessment skills, organizational and inter-personalskills are necessary. *Excellent oral, interviewing and writtencommunication skills. *Basic everyday living skills are needed, as isthe a ility to understand and follow oral and written directions.*Reading, writing, adding, and subtracting skills are needed. *Basicoffice equipment used: copy machine, computer terminal and printer, FAXmachine, calculator, and telephone
