Network Infrastructure Engineer Job Description at Allied Stone

SUMMARY OF POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Essential Functions:
This role will design, implement, maintain, and support the expanding network infrastructure at Allied Stone.Monitoring, Securing and Maintenance:

  • Utilize network monitoring tools to track and address performance issues.
  • Conduct daily health checks on network equipment, including firewalls, routers, switches, and access points.
  • Ensure all devices are updated with the latest firmware and patches.
  • Review security logs and alerts to detect potential threats.
  • Execute regular vulnerability scans and security assessments.
  • Respond to security incidents and apply necessary corrective measures.
  • Establish and oversee VPNs for secure remote access.
  • Perform routine backups of network configurations and securely store them.
  • Engage in network security evaluations and implement suggested enhancements.

Configuration and Management:

  • Setup and manage network devices, such as VLANs, QoS, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
  • Administer wireless networks, configure access points, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi issues.
  • Enforce firewall rules and security policies utilizing Fortinet devices.

Network Troubleshooting:

  • Resolve network connectivity issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with end-users to troubleshoot and fix network access problems.
  • Coordinate with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to tackle external connectivity concerns.

Documentation:

  • Maintain current network diagrams and documentation of configurations.
  • Create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for common network tasks and troubleshooting.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with other IT team members to ensure smooth integration of network infrastructure with other systems.
  • Offer network support to server and storage teams.
  • Assist users with network-related issues and respond to helpdesk inquiries.

User Training and Support:

  • Provide end-users training on network access and security best practices.
  • Help users configure VPN connections and other remote access solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TRAINING):

Required Education:

  • Hold Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) certifications.

Preferred Education:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Required Experience:

  • Comprehensive understanding of networking fundamentals, TCP/IP protocol suite, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and switching technologies (e.g., VLANs, QoS).
  • Experience in network troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of firewall technologies, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), and VPN technologies.
  • Familiarity with network management and monitoring tools (e.g., SNMP, Nagios, PRTG).
  • Strong grasp of TCP/IP networking protocols and network security concepts.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience supporting users in a cloud-hosted virtualized environment.
  • Knowledge of network configurations in an Azure environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python and Bash for automating tasks and network management.
  • Proficiency with network configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Understanding of digital video camera systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
  • Capability to interpret technical manuals, procedural documentation, and guides.
  • Skilled in researching PC issues and products as needed.

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Drive to learn new processes, applications, and support methods.

Work Environment:

  • The role will involve working in various environments, including office spaces and manufacturing facilities.

Physical Demands:

  • Possible requirement to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Travel Required:

  • Possibility of traveling to different office locations across Texas.
