McCarthy Building Companies is seeking an experienced and qualified Safety Manager to support Warranty, Operations and Maintenance activities throughout the National Renewable Energy Business Unit.

Must have at least 3+ years of experience managing safety on large commercial construction or Renewable Energy projects. Experience in Renewable Energy projects preferred (Battery Storage & Solar).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage & coordinate safety programs and all activities on active solar / battery storage power plants for warranty work and O&M tasks.
  • Monitor and communicate safety programs and efforts with on-site trade partners and McCarthy employees, ensuring safety is part of our culture and that all new hires have proper safety documents and information.
  • Conduct documented safety and health inspections no less than twice per month, coordinating compliance reports.
  • Coordinate with Project Supervision so that necessary protective equipment and safety materials are utilized, adequate first aid materials are available and safety documents are posted on-site. Manage ARC Flash PPE, testing equipment for proper inspections and certifications.
  • Coordinate with energy providers, O&M companies and owners for any plant shutdowns or work permits.
  • Investigate all injuries and review all accident reports, coordinating corrective measures with McCarthy employees and logging injuries/illnesses for OSHA purposes.
  • Minimize construction hazards and enforce safety policies utilizing the company's disciplinary policy.
  • Conduct/coordinate Project Safety "Toolbox" meetings with all McCarthy employees on a weekly basis across multiple States & locations.
  • Record and forward copies of all safety related meetings, programs, safety pre-plans, inspections, correspondence, directives, citations, etc. to the Renewable Energy Safety Director for tracking
  • Develop and implement Site Specific LOTO plans for individual projects.
  • Assist in developing task specific work planning processes and audit performance adherence.
  • Create collaborative, positive safety culture with all McCarthy employees, trade partners and owners.
  • Manage activities, review work plans, approve permits in active solar / battery storage power plants across the Country.
  • Provide weekly activity updates to the Renewable Energy Safety Director.
  • Audit and participate in safety planning and performance in remote locations throughout the US.
  • This is a traveling position.
Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience managing safety efforts of solar or energy related projects.
  • Bilingual (English - Spanish) preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
  • OSHA 500 and CHST certifications preferred.
  • Ability to manage/administer safety orientations, oversee substance abuse programs, investigate/report on injuries/illnesses/near misses and perform other various safety functions on-site.
  • Ability to work with all construction groups- management, owners, trades, and subcontractors.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel 60% - 75% nationwide.
