This is a non-employee position and is available for LCCC full-time students who live on campus.

Job Summary:

Core responsibilities of this position include:

Resident Assistant (RAs) is non-employee / non-benefited student position. This position is available to qualified LCCC full-time students and requires students to live on campus while fulfilling this role. Resident Assistants assist and help students adapt to their transitions while living on-campus. RAs develop positive relationships with residents; provided active leadership to create a community on their floors; foster a community that supports students involvement, academic success and personal growth; serve as a resource to residents for college services; and are active members of the Resident Hall Team. RAs will utilize skills in interpersonal communication, organization, mediation, problem solving and program planning.

Residence Hall staff receive a total scholarship/compensation package of room and board costs. All staff receive a double room as part of this package. (Including expanded cable TV, WIFI, high-speed internet service, utilities, and meal plan).

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Start Date: As soon after hiring process as practical. Tentative start date: 08/05/2024.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions: this position does not have an employee status with LCCC and is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

Be involved and engaged in your community

  • RAs should be present within the Eagle Village Community. RAs will be present within staff functions and events. Be present and accessible to residents, spend adequate time on the RAs floor, and regularly interact with the hall/floor community.
  • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Role model positive personal, academic, and job-related behaviors.

Events and Personal Development

  • Plan, implement, and document regular events in accordance with our Residential Learning Model.
  • Keep residents informed of campus, Student Life, and Residential Living activities by posting flyers and directly communicating with all residents.

Policy Enforcement

On Call Responsibilities:

  • Serve on call and perform duty functions as established by the Director or Assistant Director of Residential Living to enforce policies, ensure safety, and serve as a resource to the community.
  • RAs will carry the on-call phone from 5pm to 8am Monday-Friday, and 24 hours on Weekends and during LCCC closures and breaks.
  • Review, interpret, and uphold all items outlined in the Residence Hall Lease, Residence Hall Handbook, the College Catalog, Student Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to all Federal and State Laws as well as the LCCC policies both on and off campus.
    • Violations of policies will be reported and cases will be adjudicated in accordance with the LCCC student conduct process and applicable outcomes and sanctions shall be assigned independently of any applicable performance management deemed necessary by Human Resources and Residential Living.

Desk and Customer Service

  • RAs will provide service at the desk from 9am-9pm, 5 days a week. RAs will be responsible to work desk hours as determined by a schedule created by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Residential Living.

Financial Management

  • RAs are entrusted to understand proper use of financial resources and understand purchasing policies.

Resident Assistant Development & Staff Function

Support Residential Living

  • Perform all administrative functions the Director and Assistant Director of Residential Living and Administrative Assistant deem necessary such as check-in, check out, suite condition forms, weekly reports, community reports, ect.
  • Assist with Residential Living promotion and sales efforts.
  • Additional work and commitments that require additional time from the RA should be approved in advance by the Director of Residential Living. RAs should not work more than 10 hours per week unless otherwise approved by their supervisor.

Staff Function

  • Attend training.
  • Attend Staff meetings.
  • Time Away
  • Time away should be approved in advance by their supervisor. RAs may take up to 6 nights away during a month.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine others needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested.
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Physical/Mental Demands:

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position a candidate must:
  • Ability to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • A variable work schedule will be required including long work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • Frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. For lifts exceeding 50lbs a team lift is required
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a Current and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and minimum semester GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale throughout the appointment as a Resident Assistant.
    • If the required cumulative GPA is not reached, the assignment as a RA may be rescinded or deferred to a later semester.
    • Should the RA fail to meet GPA and/or credit hour requirements, their supervisor will work with them to develop an academic plan. As the GPA requirement is an eligibility requirement of the RA position, incoming new RAs are not eligible to develop an academic plan during their first semester.
    • The academic plan for Fall grades will extend through the following Spring semester. The academic plan for Spring grades will extend though the following Fall semester. Because the RA position is an academic year appointment, Summer term grades will not result in RAs being required to make an academic plan.
  • Be enrolled in 12 credits per semester
  • Not exceed 19 credit hours per semester without prior approval of the Director or Assistant Director of Residential Living.
  • Have sophomore status as determined by the LCCC College Catalog.
  • Have two semesters at LCCC remaining (fall and spring) before graduation.
  • Complete and be expected to pass a criminal background history check.
  • Have a positive financial standing (defined as not being delinquent or in default with the Business Office), academic (See GPA requirements), and student conduct status (defined as not being on College Disciplinary Probation) with Laramie County Community College.
  • Reside in the room provided.
  • Role model a standard of personal conduct commensurate with job responsibilities.
  • Abide by all College and Residence Life policies, as well as all local, state and federal laws.
  • Prioritize the position as your principal out-of-class activity; any competing employment or activities are at the discretion of the Director of Residential Living (outside employment requires pre-approval and is limited to 10 hours/week).

  • Sign a housing lease with Residential Living and pay the deposit.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of prior leadership experience (e.g. organizations, clubs, employment supervision, etc.).
  • Have lived one semester in on-campus housing (preferred, not required).
