  • Position Summary
    • Working under the supervision of the MaineHealth Chief Medical Transformation Officer (CMTO) The Chief of Orthopedic Surgery (Chief) functions as the principal academic, clinical and administrative leader for the orthopedic surgery service line; and is fully accountable for the development and maintenance of efficient, effective clinical operations as well as the development and promotion of collaborative work relationships among clinicians and administrators at all levels within the service line. The Chief is accountable to the CMTO for overall academic and administrative leadership of the service line in partnership with their dyad administrative counterpart. In collaboration and common purpose with leadership peers, and through alignment and motivation of stakeholders, the Chief contributes to the vision that drives the strategic plan of MaineHealth, and influences and implements visionary institutional policy, innovative clinical ventures, exceptional training programs and innovative research initiatives.

      The Chief and their dyad partner support and inform system level strategic planning, and are on point for the implementation follow-through, and deliverables on objectives that are aligned with the goals of the system related to the service line. That system effort entails collaborative working relationships with community-based practices and partners, and senior executives from MH Members and MH Affiliates in advancing care models focused again on decreasing variation in care, optimizing quality outcomes, and improving access to services.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • An M.D. or M.D. with progressive experience in a complex academic medical center or integrated delivery system
    • Regional, and preferably national, recognition in orthopedic surgery as evidenced by involvement in academic societies at a regional or national level.
    • Board certified.
    • Possession of, or eligibility for, a medical license in the State of Maine.
