About the Role:


The Director of Government Relations communicates the Bank's legislative priorities to federal, state and local government, and leads the Bank's government relations efforts, establishing the Bank's overall government relations and public policy strategy.

The Director of Government Relations acts as a liaison to various entities, investigating and recommending solutions to complex issues, inquiries, and problems, and providing support and public relations skills in a professional and confidential environment to enhance the Bank's operations.


The scope of responsibilities includes the following:

  • Develops the Bank's legislative agenda, actively supports any legislation of interest to the Bank.
  • Monitors state, local and federal government activities, assesses government actions and communicates this information to Bank leadership.
  • Plans and implements a legislative program that supports the Bank's strategy.
Identifies issues and designs strategies for the legislative sessions.
  • Directs and designs state/footprint wide efforts/campaigns to ensure support for the Bank during the legislative process.
  • Supervises communication of the official positions of the Bank before the U.S. Congress, state legislature, federal and state agencies, and local governments.
  • Includes supervising communications on matters of state, local and federal government relations.
  • Promotes effective communication between representatives of the Bank and representatives of local, state, and federal government.
  • Serves as part of the senior administrative team and provides advice, counsel, and expertise in all matters related to government relations.
  • Oversees government relations activities.
Represents the Bank as appropriate at internal and external meetings and events.
  • Serves as principal liaison for coordination on all legislative issues/processes, interim activities, constituency programs and the development of the Bank's legislative strategies.
  • Serves as key liaison with all Bank officials regarding all legislative issues or actions.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, economics, business, finance, or risk management and/or equivalent experience required. 10 years of relevant experience in government affairs/relations required. 10 years in the financial services industry preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of banking systems and issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of the inner workings of all levels of government, especially including state legislature including processes and legislators and state Congressional Delegation, staff and processes.
  • Excellent leadership skills, decision-making ability, and an ability to project a strong positive image of the Bank with community, corporate, government leaders and the media as well as, staff and others is required.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple parties and internal players is required
Ability to be self-motivated and capable of simultaneously managing multiple priorities is required.
  • Experience brokering effective partnerships with business, government and institutional leaders is required.
  • Proven ability to establish effective relationships and to negotiate with a wide range of constituencies is required.
  • Superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills is preferred.
  • Excellent creative problem-solving skills is preferred.
  • Planning and implementing skills is preferred.
  • Policy analysis skills is preferred.

Our Benefits:
We offer a competitive total rewards package including base wages and comprehensive benefits.

The pay range for this role is $150,000.00 to $225,000.00 and the pay rate for the selected candidate is dependent upon a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, education, and geographic location.

The role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation and those details will be provided during the recruitment process.
