Position Summary


The Director of Prevention Services leads the Prevention Education Program and the Amplified Mentoring Program supporting positive youth development by creating trusting relationships between youth and their community and providing pro-social opportunities, life skills, and recognition.

This position oversees all program operations including grant writing and program development; community relationships that support the delivery of services; hiring and management of staff; budget management; data collection and analysis; and quality assurance and compliance with county, state, and federal requirements.

Essential Duties

Utilize agency mission and appropriate licensing and contract requirements to guide daily program operations and program development.

Create and maintain strong community relationships to support program activities and the sustainability of program implementation.

Hire, train, and orient direct reports and monitor ongoing training for all program staff.

Provide supervision to direct reports through regularly scheduled team meetings, one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes.

Monitor the implementation of evidence-based programs and strategies to ensure the highest quality of service.

Oversee and/or participate in crisis intervention services, including medical, family, and psychiatric emergencies.

Assist in budget development and monitor program budgets through participation in monthly budget meetings.

Develop and implement program-specific policies and procedures with guidance from the Division Director and Human Resources.

Oversee program data collection and analysis to ensure program fidelity and outcomes.

Ensure that all documentation related to program activities is properly completed and managed appropriately and confidentially.

Attend work as scheduled and arrive at the designated time.

Secondary Duties

Participate in local community boards and coalitions to support prevention efforts and collaborate for the effective delivery of services.

Participate in grant writing for program development.

Support agency fundraising efforts by attending and/or contributing to the success of special events.

Resolve disputes, complaints and grievances between staff and/or clients in a timely manner.

Supervise staff in utilizing budgets to manage purchasing and accurate financial coding of purchases.

Complete payroll and pay-related functions in a timely manner.

Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in the field

OR any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

At least two years of supervisory experience in a social service setting.

Experience working with youth in families in a community setting and facilitating evidence-based programming and collaboration with coalitions.

Has a working knowledge of the Youth Development Model, Social Development Strategy, Motivational Interviewing and the Strategic Prevention Framework.

Demonstrates the ability to act effectively and use sound judgment within the scope of the position responsibilities.

Organizes, prioritizes and accomplishes multiple tasks with attention to deadlines.

Demonstrates creativity, responsiveness, discernment and flexibility in working with diverse groups.

Proactively expands and integrates knowledge of community resources.

Experience with budget management.

Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Software.


Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.

Willingness to accept supervision and direction.


Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver's license, have a good driving record, and be insurable on the agency liability policy.

Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.

Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for extended periods.

Work is generally performed in an office environment. May entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
