Signal Mountain Middle/High is a 6-12 institution located in Signal Mountain, TN, just on the outskirts of Chattanooga. We offer an International Baccalaureate program to students and are the sole school in our district offering the prestigious IB Middle Years Program (MYP) to students from grades 6 to 10. In addition to our academic achievements, SMMHS provides students with diverse experiences, including State-Championship athletics programs, award-winning performing and visual arts programs, and various extracurricular activities.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching & Learning - Have a deep grasp of the Tennessee Science Standards and establish clear learning objectives for each lesson. Create challenging assessments and actively involve students in science and engineering practices (SEPs). Adhere to Hamilton County Schools' instructional framework that includes:
    • Ensuring Equity in Actions
    • Setting High Expectations
    • Building a Productive Classroom Culture
    • Responsive Teaching and Learning
  • Classroom Culture: Foster a safe and constructive classroom environment where positive relationships are nurtured, procedures are well-defined, and learning takes place in a secure setting. Encourage student and teacher interactions that promote a growth mindset.
  • Family & Community: Cultivate strong relationships with students' families and keep parents informed about expectations, achievements, and any concerns regarding their children. Provide opportunities for parental involvement in their children's educational journey.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Actively engage in professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues to enhance teaching and student learning. Regularly reflect on teaching strategies and leadership, contribute insights, expertise, and time towards the school's mission and objectives.
Qualifications

  • Capable of collaborating effectively with team members, communicating clearly with supervisors, students, and families.
  • Open to coaching and feedback to advance student learning and personal growth.
  • Exhibit professionalism with strong personal values and integrity.
  • Teaching candidates should possess a valid Tennessee state teaching certification in 6-8 Science, 6-12 Science, or be upcoming graduates from an accredited teacher preparation program. If you hold a teaching license from another state, you must seek a Tennessee teaching license.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree.
