Child Family Life Specialist

The Child Family Life Specialist at XYZ Hospital provides services to pediatric patients and their families to support coping and adaptation to the health care environment, utilizing play as a therapeutic modality.
Job Description:
- Assess patient and family psychosocial needs and implement therapeutic coping plans.
- Apply techniques to assess developmental and emotional states.
- Identify factors impacting a child and family's vulnerability to stress and trauma.
- Integrate clinical evidence and child life knowledge into decision-making.
- Provide developmentally appropriate preparation and education regarding patients' diagnosis.
- Facilitate positive coping experiences during healthcare procedures.
- Implement team coping support strategies.
- Facilitate play opportunities for children and families.
- Establish safe and engaging play spaces for diverse populations.
- Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
- Maintain a therapeutic, healing, and family-centered environment.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals.
- Supervise volunteers for child life programming.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Family or Child Development, Counseling, Child Psychology, Education, Social Work, Nursing, or related field.
- Experience: Completion of child life internship as recognized by the ACLP.
- License/Certification/Registration: Ability to sit for and pass CCLS certification exam within 6 months of hire.
