SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The atmospheric diving system (ADS)/Diving Supervisor directs all phases of ADS or diving operations. The position may require worldwide travel on a call-out basis. This position may be requested to work in the facility (8 hours), aboard ships at sea, and on remote jobsites daily. This position reports to the ADS Manager.

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (hourly)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the safety and security of all Phoenix ADS related personnel and owned equipment held in the Bayou Vista, LA facility.
  • Ensures the maintenance and readiness of all ADS and diving equipment related to ADS operations.
  • Reports promptly any deficiencies in ADS equipment or certifications that may impact operations.
  • Ensures that all operations under their supervision are carried out in accordance with established Phoenix operating and safety policies and procedures.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact with the customer's representative at the job location and the person in charge of the vessel or facility, in the absence of a diving superintendent.
  • Remains cognizant of the procedures to follow to obtain medical support in the event of an incident, either diving or non-diving related.
  • Reports all incidents involving personnel or equipment according to reporting procedures.
  • Conducts safety meetings in accordance with the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs and policies, ensuring maximum practical attendance and participation.
  • Remains fully conversant with the contents of:
  1. Safe Diving and Operations Manuals.
  2. ADS Operations Manual.
  3. Phoenix's Safety Management System.
  4. Safety Memos.
  5. Appropriate area Diving Regulations.
  6. All ADS-related technical & safety manuals.
  7. Phoenix's HSE and quality programs and policies.
  • Accomplishes all tasks assigned by the Project Manager and ADS Manager.
  • Maintains a supervisor's logbook, which details projects, dives, medical examinations, and training courses taken.

Specific to operations:

  • Ensures diving operations are performed from a suitable and safe location on the surface, and in compliance with any permit to work system.
  • Assigns the duties of all members of the dive team and personally directs them throughout the diving operation.
  • Ensures that the diving equipment designated for use is suitable for the planned diving operation, inspected prior to each dive, and in good working order.
  • Ensures that all personnel engaged in or concerned with the diving operations under their authority comply with Phoenix policies and/or any other regulations that apply.
  • Ensures the use of or oversees the development, production, and implementation of a series of pre- and post-dive checklists for their operation.
  • Follows company-established or develops and implements emergency/contingency procedures.
  • Conducts the planning and detailed briefing of their diving team and support personnel.
  • Critiques the dive with the dive team after diving operations and instructs the diver(s) as to improvements in procedures and routines for future dives.
  • Conducts Job Safety and Environmental Analysis reviews and toolbox meetings with all members of the diving team prior to commencing the diving activity.
  • Expected to certify that all personnel on the dive team are qualified and physically able to perform the tasks assigned to them. Makes an assessment of the physical condition of the divers prior to each dive to determine if any physical impairment is present which would be detrimental to their health and safety in the water or under hyperbaric conditions.
  • Arranges for the provision of any facilities or additional equipment required.
  • Ensures that all operating instructions, manuals, decompression tables, treatment schedules, and regulatory publications are available at the dive location and are maintained to reflect current changes and/or developments.
  • Maintains and submit reports required by Phoenix or other regulations concerning diving operations and equipment maintenance, testing, or repair.
  • Submits all records and reports required by Phoenix to the appropriate offices within the company.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certificate of graduation from a professional diving school.
  • Certificate of completion of a Hardsuit 1200 Pilot Level 2 course.
  • One year of experience as a Diver with Phoenix or 2 years of experience as a Diver with a similar company, and at least 8 years of experience in the diving industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience participating in ADS operations.
  • Familiarity with air, surface mixed gas, and Class 2 bell diving procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of two or more of the following: pipeline construction and repair, inspection, pipeline abandonment, riser installation, anode installation, welding repair and QC, Navy ship husbandry in accordance with the Phoenix's NAVSEA contracts.
  • Ability to organize and conduct training programs in various diving related skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and an acceptable safety record.
  • Thorough knowledge of treatment and emergency procedures for all types of diving related accidents.
  • Thorough knowledge of project management, cost-tracking, and pre-job planning.
  • A score of at least 90% on the written Supervisor's Test.
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel worldwide, on short notice, for indefinite periods of time.
  • Possession of, or the ability to gain and maintain, the following current certifications/documents:
  1. ADCI Air Diving Supervisor's Card.
  2. Rig Pass (SafeGulf/SafeLand and SEMS).
  3. SEMS- It is included in Rig Pass.
  4. Rigging - API-RP-2DWater Survival T-HUET.
  5. TWIC Card.
  6. Hot Work-Fire Watch-Incipient Fire.
  7. First Aid/CPR/AED.
  8. Offshore Physical/Offshore Dive Physical).
  9. Confined Space/Entrant Attendant/Supervisor/Rescue.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, if required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the recognition and treatment of decompression illness and first aid procedures.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good computer skills, with competence in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to liaise smoothly with partner companies and foreign personnel.
  • Professional competence, a sense of responsibility, a high degree of judgment, a willingness to conform to regulations, a sense of initiative, an ability to cope with emergency situations, and a general management capability.
  • The skills and competence required for the designation as an ADS Pilot/diver with the exception that they need not be medically qualified if they will not dive.
