Overview:


The CDC Foundation seeks an Infection Prevention Nurse Consultant who will support the Communicable Disease Branch of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The position requires considerable knowledge of infection prevention theory and practice.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of principles and practices of applicable State and Federal laws, business, finance, physician services, nursing, pharmacy, sanitation, diagnostic services and/or patient activity programs.
  • Considerable knowledge of advanced communication skills, both verbal and written, to both patients and families, as well as professional colleagues, physicians, other agencies, vendors and research sponsors.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of State and Federal standards, certifying and accrediting bodies, guidelines and regulations applicable to areas of assignment.
  • Ability to answer questions from nursing and medical staff or provide consultation on disease processes, treatment and care.
  • Ability to manage, anticipate, recognize and respond to complex situations including conflict resolution, decision-making and prioritizing.
  • Ability to organize, develop and conduct formal training programs.
  • Ability to direct the work of others in the area of specialty.
  • Ability to develop a professional relationship and communicate with patients/families while assisting them in living with potentially life-threatening diseases.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with patients, staff and outside agencies related to system reviews, standards and interdisciplinary plans of care.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of clinical experience in the area of specialization.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and must provide proof of acceptable insurance coverage with mandatory minimum coverages as set forth within the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy ("Policy").

Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical healthcare services for a broad dispersed geographic area, which may encompass a variety of health issues and cultural differences or a significantly high-risk and costly patient group.
  • Participate in program planning, policy-making and the development of system-wide nursing standards.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation within the areas assigned. They may provide advanced technical expertise and guidance in assessing, developing and implementing educational and research materials to meet nursing practice needs.
  • Conduct on-site infection prevention and control assessments at hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other healthcare settings that are experiencing an outbreak or a case of an emerging multidrug-resistant organism.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve.

Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of North Carolina in their public health programming.

This position is currently a remote position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
