General Description

This role involves providing professional counseling services as part of the Office of Crisis Intervention Services' Person in Crisis (PIC) Team. You'll lead emergency responses to various crises such as mental health (crisis, suicide), substance abuse, and domestic violence situations.

It's a competitive class position, and the selected individual will have a provisional appointment until the next Civil Service Examination for this role.

As a **qualified applicant**, you may serve in this role until a permanent appointment is made following the Civil Service Rule of Three.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE MANDATORY WHEN APPLYING.

Typical Work Activities

  • Leads emergency responses to different crises including mental health, substance abuse, and family disputes;
  • Mobilizes response team members, assigns tasks, and represents the City at the scene;
  • Conducts assessments of affected individuals and families;
  • Manages an immediate support plan for each individual and their family;
  • Organizes available services and partner agencies to address needs;
  • Connects individuals with appropriate services and ensures follow-through;
  • Manages response information and relevant data for reporting;
  • Designs and coordinates staff, volunteer, and partner trainings;
  • Ensures appropriate staffing and training for quality service delivery;
  • Provides on-site professional coaching and training as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or related field AND three (3) years of crisis intervention experience.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) or related field AND five (5) years of relevant experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a valid New York State Class D driver's license.
