Job Description
GTRI's Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) seeks a Student Assistant, in the San Diego field office for Fall 2024, with interests in mechanical engineering, signal processing and data analysis. The student will be involved in the development, testing, and evaluation of an acoustic maritime monitoring system suitable for littoral and ocean-based operation. Primary responsibilities include:
Overall system engineering Development and re-design for an existing maritime data collection platform Simulation, experiment and validation of such system towards mission requirements and different sea conditions Conduct acoustic testing to characterize signal quality and accuracy Provide improvement recommendation to minimize acoustic loss and improve SNR Field data collection and data analysis Report writing and manuscript preparation as neededRequired Minimum Qualifications
Student Assistant
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters 3.0 or higher GPAPreferred Qualifications
Experience in iterative design and additive manufacturing Experience with CAD modeling tools; SolidWORKS experience preferred Experience with fluid mechanics Experience with system design, energy budget analysis Experience with Matlab Experience with basic data analysis and visualizationHours per Week
20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
