PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Develop, implement, and monitor Assistive Technology (AT) Services and Equipment in Frisco ISD.

Provide evaluation, modeling, training, and technical assistance to students, staff, and parents on the full continuum of communication and technology support available, which may include appropriate access modifications, software, systems, and/or strategies that support instruction.

Assess, plan, organize, and participate in the delivery of Assistive Technology Services that support a student's access to the instructional programs designated in the student's Individualized Education Plan.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, or other related field
Valid Texas license or certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to support assistive technology device inventory, maintenance, and subscriptions
Ability to use technology to communicate, compile reports, collect data, and maintain accurate records (e.g., service logs) with expediency and proficiency
Ability to continually learn, use, and teach new equipment and software
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Minimum 3 years successful experience providing direct service/intervention to students with disabilities
Minimum of 40 hours of professional training in assistive technology evaluation/intervention preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Assessment/Evaluation:

Collect, organize and interpret student information from guardians and teachers, as well as relevant assessment data from the cumulative folder and outside evaluation reports.

Conduct classroom observations and interviews with guardians, staff, and students.
Review available data to determine appropriate evaluation materials, procedures, and equipment.

Administer and interpret individual assessments to determine if a student meets educational criteria and/or exhibits a need for special education services according to federal and state regulations.

Complete assistive technology portion of Full and Individual Evaluation, for the purpose of providing access for students, within the District special education data management system.

Review assistive technology evaluation results with guardians, including interpretation of evaluation data and educational needs of the student.

Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to make recommendations regarding educational need for services and to assist with the interpretation of evaluation data, appropriate placement, specified timelines, and development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students according to district procedures.


Provision of Services:
Research, recommend, and order assistive technology devices/software/equipment for students.
Plan and provide assistive technology services to students as outlined in the IEP.
Maintain documentation assistive technology service provision within the special education data management system.
Continuously monitor student progress, make changes during service provision and recommend adjustments to IEP, as needed.

Consult and train District staff, outside service providers, and guardians regarding assistive technology services and the development and implementation of the IEP.

Colleague Support:

Provide ongoing support and education to assist with implementation of quality special education programming.

Communicate current legal findings related to federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, local Board policies and operating procedures in the area of evaluation, planning, placement, and delivery of special education services.

Train and provide ongoing support to parents, staff, and students in the use and maintenance of assistive technology software, equipment, devices, and strategies for their use.

Coach classroom personnel to effectively use classroom-based technology and assistive technologies for communication, literacy, and technology skill development in children with disabilities as it impacts success at school.

Coordinate with other team members to make recommendations and provide integrated communication/access/device programs to students with disabilities.

Communication:
Maintain a positive, professional, and effective relationship with supervisors, administrators, educators, staff, students, and parents.
Use effective verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and school information and records at all times.

Administration:
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.

Physical demands include:

frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting and transferring students to and from wheelchairs and assisting with positioning students with physical disabilities.

Exposure to biological hazards.
