Primary PurposeThe CO2 Well Technician will be responsible for operating the Company's CO2 sequestration field in Southeast Wyoming near the towns of Carpenter and Pine Bluffs. This position will report directly to the CO2 West Supervisor and will serve as a liaison between the supervisor and the other storage operators. The successful candidate will have a background in well operations and maintenance and will have both experience working around and a proficient understanding of downhole well work, equipment, and tools used in the oil and gas industry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensures operational reports are delivered to CO2Field Operations and Subsurface Operations in a timely manner
    • Periodic wellhead pressures for tubing and all well annuli
    • Periodic wellsite and flowline inspections
  • Works with team of CO2Field Operations and Subsurface Operations personnel to oversee well work and provide logistical support for large, well related projects
    • Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
    • Collect field tickets.
    • Keep workovers, wireline jobs, coil tubing projects, etc. safe by making sure contractors adhere to Tallgrass safety standards, follow procedures and by recognizing when unsafe activities are being performed.
    • Work with CO2 Field Operations and Subsurface Operations to plan workovers and other projects to maintain and improve well performance.
    • Prepare and reconnect well site piping and wellheads for workover activities.
    • Oversee routine well work (i.e. slickline and wireline projects, wellhead maintenance, bottomhole pressure surveys, mechanical integrity tests (MIT Test)
    • Coordinate with Company Corrosion department regarding maintenance of cathodic protection equipment installed on flowlines and wellheads.
    • Provide logistical support by designating safe staging areas for equipment and by assisting contract well site supervisors with minor tasks so they can stay focused on the main objective of the well work procedure.
  • Make improvements to sequestration operation
    • Work with CO2 Field Operations to test and grease wellhead valves.
    • Repair valves and other equipment as required.
    • Perform 3-year MITs on wells or as required.
    • Keep wellheads painted and well sites in pristine condition.
    • Maintain roadways ensuring access from emergency services.
    • Install/maintain well transmitters for storage wells.
  • Problem Solving
    • Troubleshoot flowline freezes and work with team to get well flowing again.
    • Work with CO2 Field Operations and Subsurface Operations to determine source of annular pressure.
    • Help solve issues related to wells, flowlines, valves, etc.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Help to develop and maintain a Well Control Contingency Plan along with Emergency Response Plan.
  • Actively participate in safety programs/initiatives, development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plans.
  • General upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment (flowline right-of-way, , excavate/repair/coat/backfill flowlines, , paint, weed control, etc.). Assist with activities related to flowline integrity work.
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and government regulations (PHMSA, EPA, USFS, state agencies, etc.).
  • Complete all applicable documentation and record-keeping.
  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.
  • Will maintain Operator Qualification on all assigned covered tasks as determined by the direct Supervisor.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special operations, maintenance, and project duties as identified and assigned.
  • Documentation: daily, weekly, monthly, operations and compliance reports as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two (2) years of direct work experience may be considered as a substitute for a degree/certification.

EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
  • Good record of safe work practices.
  • 10 years gas well experience and gas well workover experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
  • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision in an acceptable time frame.
  • Strong customer focus and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

  • Frequent travel, sometimes overnight, may be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Living environs will be relevant to the work location to address call outs and emergency response.
  • Required to respond to after hour "call outs" due to equipment and/or operational problems as needed.
  • May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit reports for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed. The successful candidate will be required to be in compliance with PHMSA drug and alcohol requirements.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES (above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position):
  • IADC Well Control Training Certificate
  • Experience in CO2 injection or Enhanced Oil Recovery operations.
  • In lieu of CO2 well operations experience, a candidate with contract well service experience will be considered.
