Health Science Officer

Duties:
Rehabilitation Research and Development (RR&D) emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to clinically significant problems identified by healthcare providers and Veterans to improve the quality of life for Veterans.
RR&D's goal is to maximize the physical and social autonomy of Veterans and ultimately the general population through innovative research that repairs injured organs and tissues, brings basic discoveries to clinical use, replaces function that cannot be repaired using prosthetics, orthotics, and assistive devices, restores physiological function, and enhances social integration.
RR&D is in a period of innovation, developing productive collaborations with other Federal Agencies, Academia, Non-profit and for-profit companies with a common cause - to improve the quality of life for Veterans and in turn the nation.
The major duties include serving as the Scientific Program Manager (SPM) for four major areas:- RR&D Career Awards Program including Career Development Awards (CDA), Senior Research Career Scientists, and Research Career Scientist (RCS) Awards;
- RR&D Centers and the Research Enhancement Award Programs (REAP);
- RR&D funded clinical trials; and
- Scientific dissemination and other content for the RR&D website.
SPM areas of responsibilities consist of:
- Program Implementation;
- Development and Management;
- Communication/Review Planning; and
- Documentation/Database development.

Required to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (Compressed/

Available (applicant is required on site 50% of work schedule per pay period).

Qualifications:
BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
A bachelor's or higher-level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences that is appropriate to the work of this position.
This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Transcripts required.- In addition to the basic educational requirement, you must also meet the
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS at the GS14 grade level: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS13 grade level in Federal service.
Specialized experience includes:
acting as the Principal Investigator for a scientific research program; utilizing rehabilitation research methodologies; developing scientific research proposals; and participating in the merit review process.

IMPORTANT:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
