Parking Summons Case Advocate at NYC Department of Finance

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is dedicated to administrating the city's tax revenue laws fairly, efficiently, and transparently to build public confidence and ensure compliance while offering exceptional customer service.

The Office of the Taxpayer Advocate (OTA), an independent office within the DOF, aids customers unable to resolve tax issues through regular DOF channels. OTA also makes systemic recommendations to enhance DOF policies.

The Parking Summons Advocate Office, a part of OTA, ensures fairness in parking summons disputes, serving the public and providing mediation between various parties involved.

The role of Parking Summons Case Advocate involves assisting the public with parking/camera summons issues, conducting research for case resolutions, and offering support for those disputing their summons.

Required skills include excellent communication for interacting with diverse individuals, including officials from NYC Council offices. The Case Advocate will investigate and respond to parking violation complaints and analyze systemic issues, collaborating with DOF units for solutions.

  • Interview respondents, explain procedures, appeal rights, and provide counseling on penalties.
  • Advocate for motorists with administrative defects, liaise with various stakeholders, and research systemic issues.
  • Participate in activities for case advocacy guidance, internal/external training, maintain case management system, and compile data for reports.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, rules, and regulations, conduct advocacy duties through various means, and fulfill assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree and 2 years of related experience, high school graduation with 6 years of related experience, or equivalent education/experience.
