Position Title: Construction/Fixed Asset Accountant
Location: Dallas, TX
Your role:
As a Construction/Fixed Asset Accountant at Digital Realty, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our global development program. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate milestone reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and timely placing of assets into service. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to the financial success of a growing company.
What you'll do:
The Construction/Fixed Asset Accountant will report into the Manager, Construction & Fixed Asset Accounting and will be responsible for:
- Project milestone tracking: ensure timely and accurate reporting of project completion dates.
- Communicate with project stakeholders to track variety of key milestones for our development projects across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, with a keen focus on events triggering start of depreciation expense and revenue recognition.
- Prepare and distribute summaries of current and near-term completion projections to regional stakeholders.
- Project financial closeouts: collaborate with suppliers and project managers to prepare project cost reconciliations, closeout open commitments, and issue final account reports.
- Lead execution of final account and cost reconciliations, partnering with project managers to ensure accurate and timely close.
- Communicate with vendors to collect final invoices and deductive/savings change orders; coordinate with AP teams to ensure timely processing.
- Reconcile committed to actual costs and close open commitments in project accounting module.
- Completed projects and Fixed Asset processing:
- Prepare entries to transfer final project costs from construction in progress to fixed asset accounts.
- Prepare entries to establish assets and commence depreciation in the fixed asset module.
- Assist in preparing reconciliations of general ledger to both construction in progress and fixed assets subledgers.
To be a good fit for the Construction/Fixed Asset Accountant opportunity you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
- 1-3 years' accounting experience. Fixed asset and/or project accounting preferred but not required; liaising with field construction personnel is a plus.
- Fundamental understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Experience processing adjusting journal entries, processing reclassification journals, preparing account reconciliations, and any other related tasks.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Yardi experience beneficial but not required.
