At UConn Health, this class is accountable for the preparation of schematic, design development, and construction documents, as well as conceptual design studies within the Project Design and Construction function.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May lead other employees as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Prepares preliminary designs, feasibility studies, and conceptual cost estimates for assigned projects. Conducts field surveys and measurements for the development of design documents. Prepares and reviews design drawings plans and specifications (Architectural & MEP) in compliance with applicable current codes, regulations, standards, practices, policies, and procedures. Utilizes computer-aided design software and coordinates design work with other project team members. Maintains, directs, and designs assigned projects within time and cost parameters. Maintains quality and building standards and services as a technical resource for the department. Updates as-built records of buildings and structures. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of estimating methods and procedures. Knowledge of architectural design, building renovations, renovation, and construction costs. Knowledge and understanding of structural, mechanical, electrical, and engineering practices. Knowledge of building, life safety codes, building construction, CSI specification format, methods, and materials. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Ability to investigate and assess project-related field conditions as they relate to proposed projects. Ability to estimate building renovations and construction costs. Ability to incorporate the knowledge of building construction methods and materials into designs. Knowledge of producing architectural drawings and details utilizing CAD / BIM software; ability to use MS Word and Excel.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of experience in preparing architectural drawings and details using computer-aided design software, project documents, and cost estimates for several types of building projects.

SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED:

College education in architecture may substitute for the General Experience based on fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of five (5) years for completion of a five-year bachelor's degree program in architecture. One (1) year of experience in preparing architectural drawings and details using computer-aided design software, project documents, and cost estimates for several types of building projects

PREFERRED:

Experience with renovations of commercial, educational, or institutional buildings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury or physical harm from site environments and to some discomfort from year-round conditions.

SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, primarily 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, other shifts as assigned to meet organizational project needs, 30 minute unpaid meal break.
