Oversees the implementation and administration of programs, protocols, and procedures to ensure the maintenance of the safety, health, and environment of the employees, contractors, visitors and the community.

Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal occupational health, safety and environmental (HSE) laws, regulations, and guidelines, as well as with corporate health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.

The incumbent is the primary contact for Safety and Environmental questions and issues for the facility.

Through ongoing contacts with the NA HSE Regional Managers and the worldwide HPR EHS Manager keeps current on federal, state, and local legislation, regulation changes, and changes to fire/safety codes and manuals; maintains knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local fire, safety, environmental, and health regulations and procedures Requisite skills include but are not limited to:

  • Performing on-site safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, NYDEC and other related regulations.
  • Ability to develop and implement standard operating procedures.
  • Skill in conducting incident investigations.
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, and standards for the receipt, handling, storage, shipment, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials is required.
  • Knowledge of the nature and usage of a wide range of fire prevention, safety, health protection, and environmental protection equipment is essential.
  • Program planning and implementation skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Knowledge of the Saint-Gobain World Class Manufacturing (WCM) process as well as specialized HSE training in this area (HSE Green Belt) will be strongly taken into consideration and or will become a requirement for all candidates. The incumbent must be able to provide clear and understandable direction/guidance to subordinates and to articulate and convey the significance of work to higher level personnel. He/She will possess skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and deliver presentations.
