Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Student Involvement, the NUFP Campus Life Intern will assist in the planning and implementation of programs for the SJSU campus and support of the Campus Life subdivision. In collaboration with Campus Life staff and general Student Affairs division, the incumbent will also support large scale campus-wide programs and general programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Campus Life programs including but not limited to club & organization recognition, prevention programming.
  • Assist with fairs, workshops, trainings as needed.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of campus-wide programs (i.e., Orientation, etc).
  • Market events and programs via SJSU Sammy app, printed material, social media, etc.
  • Assists with coordination of special events and receptions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with the Internet, and graphic design and publishing software.
  • Ability to provide mentorship to student assistants to aid in their professional development.
  • Ability to facilitate collaborate environment.
  • Ability to provide student assistants with guidance and direction to accomplish tasks.
  • Event planning skills.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Ability to facilitate effective workshops, presentations, etc.
  • Ability to comprehend and educate on various leadership development theories.
  • Knowledge of software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SJSU policies and procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service and public relations skills.
  • General knowledge of diversity issues as it pertains to students and a campus environment.
  • Ability to work with the campus community to foster a good understanding of diversity and diversity issues.
  • Ability in counseling students and interfacing effectively with faculty, deans, administrators, alumni, and community members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees and external agencies.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with a social justice emphasis.
  • Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and handle multiple work priorities, organize and plan work and projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of related office work experience.
  • Previous experience working with college students.

Compensation

Classification: Administrative Trainee
Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,505/month
CSU Salary Range: $3,505/month - $5,826/month

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
