Job Description

Summary

The AVP, Actuarial Models oversees and directs the Actuarial Model Governance team, primarily for the Moody's AXIS actuarial modeling software. Responsibilities include acting as model governor and chair of the Actuarial Model Governance Committee.

This position reports to the VP, Actuarial Models and will interact with multiple levels of senior management, including significant ongoing exposure with VPs of Actuarial, Finance, IT and Risk, as well as SVPs of Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Retail and Institutional Business Units, and the Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer. This is a leadership role managing a team of 4-6 team members, including responsibility for their selection, training and development in conjunction with the Chief Actuary and Human Resources' overall training and staff development plan for all actuaries.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizing and chairing the Actuarial Model Governance Committee
  • Executing model governance protocols ensuring timeliness and accuracy of actuarial model output
  • Enforcing change management procedures and testing for process efficiency
  • Creating and managing collaborative tools
  • Maintaining clear centralized model documentation
  • Creating and managing AXIS Enterprise Link work areas
  • Monitoring cloud computing environment and collaborating with IT and Moody's
  • Collaborating with internal Controls and Risk teams, Internal Audit, external auditors, and state insurance department requests
  • Ensuring accurate and timely job function execution
  • Driving process improvements and efficiencies
  • Providing leadership, coaching, and development to the team

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance, Statistics or related field
  • Minimum ASA; FSA preferred
  • Seven to ten years of actuarial modeling experience
  • Experience in team leadership
  • Experience with formal controls and auditors preferred
