Purpose of Position:

To oversee the product mix, inventory, pricing, and promotions of a specific range of product categories for all business sectors (Retail, Wholesale, and Fleet) to accomplish sales growth and inventory performance objectives while nurturing strong relationships with suppliers and internal team members.

Primary Roles:

  • Product Mix
  • Manage the process of selecting and launching new products.
  • Provide mix details to marketing and sales teams to facilitate merchandising and promotion of products.
  • Monitor the performance of current offerings and make adjustments as necessary to reach sales and inventory performance targets.
  • Pricing
  • Develop and execute pricing strategies.
  • Adapt prices according to market trends, inventory levels, and demand.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best prices, discounts, and terms.
  • Promotions
  • Create promotions to enhance sales and product visibility in alignment with the marketing calendar.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and operations to communicate and implement promotions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of promotions.
  • Information Handling
  • Assess incoming information and feedback from suppliers, buying groups, the Alamo team, and customers.
  • Take necessary actions, responses, sharing, and documentation based on the received information.
  • Inventory Management and Performance
  • Forecast and manage inventory levels, including min-max calculations and overrides, to ensure optimal availability and turnover.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory metrics (Sales, Turns, GMROI, Margin, Fill Rate).
  • Arrange the disposition of inventory items no longer part of the stocking mix.
  • Supplier Relationships and Performance
  • Cultivate and sustain strong partnerships with suppliers.
  • Regularly communicate with suppliers to ensure order accuracy, resolve issues, and gather feedback.
  • Assess and rate supplier performance based on quality, price, service, and dependability.
  • Plan Visits to Suppliers

Other Responsibilities:

  • Review scheduled reports and take necessary actions.
  • Undertake additional tasks as required.
