Job Description:


Reporting functionally to the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and operationally to the Information Technology & Security Manager (ITSM), this role will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the local and wide area networks of an organization to ensure maximum uptime for users.

The role can include designing system configurations, installation, and documentation of a new network, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary.

This role also assists the ISSM with accountability for maintaining the security and compliance posture and relevant supporting documentation of the information technology system.


Primary Focus:

The Network Engineer, in conjunction with the ISSM, will ensure the security and compliance of the accredited information systems is maintained.

This position also serves as a SME for the security controls maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of network components within the information systems networks.


NOTE:
This role is subject to the incumbent's ability to hold an NRC Q-clearance as well as their ongoing ability to maintain site access

Roles and Responsibilities:
Design and implement new network solutions for improving network efficiency.
Implement effective network security measures.
Maintain computer networks including VPNs, routers, switches, and other network infrastructure.

Install and configure network equipment including firewalls, routers, switches, and other network related equipment to maximize network efficiency and security.

Manage firewalls and network security systems to keep data and communications protected.
Maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.
Arrange and schedule upgrades, patches, and firmware updates for network devices.
Report network status to management personnel.

Maintain current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems.

Document any changes to IS networks.

Assist ISSM with the following activities:

Software Reviews
Event Log Reviews
Configuration Backups / Recovery
Tamper Seal Reviews
iOS Updates
Inventory
Configuration Management Reviews
Continuous Monitoring Security Control Reviews
Hardware and Software Introduction Screening
Internal Self-Assessments
Incident Response / Investigations
Corrective Action response and Action Completion Environmental Health and Safety (EHS):
Maintain compliance with Safety requirements.
Immediately report any safety or environmental incidents, unsafe acts, and conditions or near misses to the Company's management.

Adhere to the Company's EHS environmental policies, procedures and legislative requirements relating to the work being undertaken to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace and to minimize or eliminate the environmental impacts of the task.

Perform safety and risk assessment duties as assigned by management

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent
Bachelor's Degree with 4-5 years of prior related experience in technical field, preferably Information Technology or any of the Engineering fields or Graduate Degree with 2-3 years of prior related experience
Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process.
Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process General:
Undertake from time to time any other responsibilities consistent with the incumbent's skills, qualifications, and experience level.
Always adhere to the Company's security policies and procedures

Desired:
Comprehensive understanding of network services and networks such as TCP/IP, OSPF, VOIP, and EIGRP.
Understanding of Black Core Routing.
Knowledge of RADIUS.
Comprehensive knowledge of network security practices and policies such as NIST SP and NIST SP Rev 5.
In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of networking systems such as firewalls, network routing, and switching. Ability to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently and securely.
Ability to design, implement and troubleshoot WLAN and security infrastructure.
Time management. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.

Ability to effectively communicate technical information to other IT team members and coworkers in other departments who may not know technical terminology for networking.

In-depth understanding of Microsoft Visio for network diagraming.
Basic knowledge of various computer Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, etc.)
Working knowledge of virtual computing and virtual switching.
