Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician

Requisition Number:

S&ME is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Wilmington, North Carolina. You will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing construction materials testing projects throughout the coast and surrounding areas.

Your Day-to-Day:

As a Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will:

  • Supervise, lead, and mentor junior technicians.
  • Collaborate closely with project and operations managers to ensure high-quality results for our clients.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction site field observations.
  • Utilize Metafield and other systems for daily documentation of field activities, observations, and testing results.
  • Calibrate equipment.
  • Conduct Special Inspections per IBC standards.
  • Communicate daily with stakeholders and mentor/train construction staff.
  • Serve as a Special Inspection agent.
  • Assist project managers in plan and specification review and resolve deviations.

What You Bring:

  • A high school diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Ability to work outdoors and standing for extended periods of time in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to walk over rough and uneven terrain while carrying a loaded wheelbarrow
  • Routinely able to lift and carry 40-50lbs (field/lab samples and equipment)
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours and travel out of town, possibly overnight, for assignments as needed
  • Two or more of following active certification(s):
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
    • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
