Job Description


Position Title: Facilities Assistant

Department: Parking Department

Location: 166 Summers Street

Number of open positions: 1

Anticipated Start Date: June 3, 2024

End Date: August 9, 2024

Hours of work per week: part-time / 30 hours per week/ Monday through Friday

Business/Work Hours: 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (with 1⁄2 hour unpaid lunch)

Pay Rate: $10.00


General Description:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to implement a variety of community, recreational, cultural, special events, and other programs at City of Charleston designated facilities for youth ages years of age. Program employment dates are June 3, August 9, 2024, and may be extended based on employee availability and departmental needs.

Work hours: Maximum 35 hours per week.

This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.


Responsibilities, tasks, and projects:

Custodial, janitorial, painting, inventory, light maintenance, and other duties as needed.


Candidate requirements:

18 years or older.

Able to walk and climb stairs within parking facilities.

Able to lift 25 pounds.

Able to stand for long periods of time.


Dress Code:

Casual (jeans or workpants without holes) and uniform shirt (provided).

Additional Qualifications:

  1. Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
  2. Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate and interact with others; to understand and interpret safety instructions; and to respond to internal and external inquiries.
  3. Ability to understand and comply with City and departmental guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations.
